Module 4 offers an overview of the diagnosis and treatment of Vector-Borne Diseases (VBDs) in Canada with a focus on the two main VBDs that are a current threat to Canadians – Lyme disease and West Nile Virus (WNV). The module discusses the challenges and controversies surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of VBDs. It also addresses the lived experiences of those living with VBDs.

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:
- Describe health and social outcomes following vector-borne infections (1.6)
- Describe how social determinants of health impact the treatment of VBDs (2.1)
- Acknowledge and respect the perspective of those with lived experiences of VBDs and recognize their strengths, knowledge and capacities, as well as the unique challenges they face (2.3)
- Describe nursing care related to current treatment strategies (4.1)
- Understand how to assist individuals, families, communities, and populations to navigate the health care system in collaboration with inter-/intra-professional and inter-sectoral partners (4.2)
- Describe community-tailored and person-centred strategies and approaches to improve prognosis and quality of life (4.3)
- Demonstrate an awareness of the inequities and the impact of colonization in health care associated with treatment and access to health care resources (4.4)
- Discuss the current best evidence around prevention, diagnoses, and treatment of VBDs in Canada (1.7)
